wE ARE ACCEPTING Student Transfer applicationS for the 2025-26 school year UNTIL AUGUST 8.

The 2025-26 student transfer window will re-open on Wednesday, October 1st.

We are now accepting ONLINE enrollment for all students new to RISD for 2025-26.

Transfer Criteria

Students and parents requesting a transfer within Rockdale ISD must agree to meet district expectations regarding academic performance, attendance, behavior, and parental cooperation.

Transfers are granted for one academic year and reviewed annually. Once approved, the student is expected to remain at the assigned campus for the duration of the school year. A return to the home campus during that year requires a written request from the parent and approval from both campus principals.

Established Residency Requirement (Prior to Transfer Request)

  • Elementary students new to Rockdale ISD must attend their zoned home campus for at least one grading period before being eligible to request a transfer.

  • Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Employees of Rockdale ISD are exempt from this requirement.

Students Who Become Nonresidents

A student who becomes a nonresident during the school year may remain enrolled through the end of the current semester, provided all attendance, behavior and academic standards continue to be met.

To remain enrolled for the entire school year, that family must:

  • Submit a transfer request form (fee waived)
  • Have the transfer approved by the campus principal
  • Provide the student's new nonresident address to Rockdale ISD Central Administration for proper coding.

Nonresident Employees of RISD

Children of nonresident employees are eligible to attend Rockdale ISD schools in accordance with Board Policy DEB (LOCAL) and the following provisions:

  • No application fee will be charged for nonresident employee children.

  • Students may be assigned to the campus of the employee's choice, subject to availability.

  • This policy is reviewed annually to ensure continued financial feasibility.

  • Transfers for employee children are contingent upon the employee's continued employment with Rockdale ISD. If employment ends, the student’s transfer becomes void.

UIL Eligibility for Transfers

A student’s eligibility to participate in school-sponsored athletic competitions is determined by the legal residence of the student and their parent(s) or legal guardian. To establish eligibility, the student and their parent or guardian must:

  • Physically reside within the Rockdale ISD attendance zone,

  • Receive mail at that residence, and

  • Intend to remain living at that address.

Students who reside outside the Rockdale ISD attendance zone are ineligible for varsity competition under UIL rules for one calendar year, beginning on the first day of enrollment.

Additionally, all students, regardless of residency, must complete a Previous Athletic Participation Form (PAPF). This form must be reviewed and approved by the District Executive Committee before the student is cleared for UIL athletic participation.

For more information about athletic eligibility requirements, please contact Rockdale ISD Athletic Director, Hunter Hamrick, at hhamrick@rockdaleisd.net or (512)430-6150 ext. 2058.
