2017 Mar 1: Elementary Spring Events
The Spring Semester, as I have mentioned in weeks prior, is a very busy semester for all Rockdale ISD campuses. This week , our Rockdale Elementary School Principal, Ms. Alesha Eoff, is excited to share all of the activities going on at RES.
At Rockdale Elementary School we welcome parents and family members on campus anytime, but we have some extra special opportunities coming up in the next few weeks that we would like to share with you.
This week, we will be participating in Read Across America Day. This is the 20th anniversary of the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day. This is an annual even that creates motivation and awareness for students to read by celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday. On March 2nd, our students will share books and stories with each other, and partner up with different grade levels to read with each other. We also have guest readers from around the community who will come in to read with our children. This is a unique opportunity to help our students develop and share their love of reading.
The next day, our students will participate in a ReadQuest Challenge. They will read in their classrooms and take Accelerated Reader tests with students across the nation. ReadQuest is a one-day event that brings Kindergarten through 12th grade students from all over the country together to celebrate the power of reading.
The following week, March 6th-10th, we will join over four million others across the state in celebrating Texas Public School Week. This week will be a celebration of educational opportunities and programs that we have at Rockdale Elementary. Our staff and students have been busy planning some fun activities to appeal to everyone in the family. We would like to invite everyone to attend our events, and we look forward to seeing you on campus with us!
Our week will begin on Monday, March 6th, with our campus hosting a Make-and-Take Craft Night from 5:30-7:00. This event will take place in our cafeteria, and we know the kids will be excited to get to make crafts with someone special to them.
Our celebration continues on Tuesday, March 7th , with a Breakfast for Moms. We will also provide a Breakfast for Grandparents on Wednesday, March 8th, and on Thursday, March 9th , we will host a Breakfast for Dads. Please make plans to attend these special days for our students. The breakfasts will begin each day at 7:30.
In addition to breakfasts, our first graders would like to invite everyone to our Texas Program on Friday, March 10th, at 1:00 in the gym. Our first graders and their teachers have been practicing their singing and dancing skills, and they are ready to perform an awesome program for everyone.
Another great opportunity for our parents is our free ESL classes that are offered at our elementary. On Tuesday nights from 6:00-8:00, Ms. Guadalupe Orzoco has been offering English classes to any interested parent or guardian. She welcomes everyone into her class that would like to learn conversational English. Please contact the elementary for more information, and she will be happy to speak with you about this opportunity.
Please come support your child and our campus by attending the events that we have planned especially for you. Your support from home helps to strengthen the success of all of our students. We would like to invite everyone to attend our events, and we look forward to seeing you on campus with us. If you would like more information, feel free to contact your child’s teacher or the elementary and we will be happy to help you.
