Corona Virus (COVID-19) Updates

Governor Abbott announced in an executive order Friday morning that all Texas schools are closed for the remainder of the school year.

What this means for Rockdale ISD:

  • distance learning (on-line and paper based) will continue through the end of the school year
  • alternate plans for awards ceremonies, graduation, etc. are in the works and will be announced in the coming days

Stay home, stay safe, and stay strong Tigers!

Because of the logistics of getting work back from students, we are not issuing final grades for the 5th Six Weeks at this time. This extension will allow additional time to receive and process 5th Six Weeks assignments. Watch for updates with more information.

Due to Governor Abbott's Executive Order this afternoon, Rockdale ISD will extend distance learning until May 4.
The Milam County Commissioners issued a Shelter in Place order today.  A Shelter in Place is not a lock-down.  It does prevent travel for non-essential purposes.  The operation of a school is considered essential and is exempt from that restriction.  The order is in place until April 6 so our current schedule for school closure remains the same.  The Milam County superintendents will conduct a phone conference with the county judge next Tuesday, March 31, to make a decision about future closing.
We will continue to operate our instructional and foodservice programs as they are in place.  Campuses will continue to provide support either online and through phone calls.  For those students who are not using online learning, instructional learning packets will be distributed through our remote meal sites unless you have received other directions from campus staff. Please contact your child's school office if you have any questions about where to pick up institutional materials.
We will continue to update you as we receive more information.
According to County Judge Steve Young, all Milam County schools will be closed indefinitely. Rockdale ISD is currently planning to be closed through April 3rd and will re-evaluate on April 2nd. Beginning Monday, March 23rd, online learning for all students will be available.  Campuses will communicate options for each child.  More information will be sent by tomorrow afternoon regarding instructional expectations and meal distribution for students.   Please stay in touch with your campus staff and monitor the district website for the most current information.  All questions can be sent to and will be answered within 24 hours.
Rockdale Independent School District will offer curbside grab-and-go free breakfast and lunch to anyone 18 years old and younger. This will begin Tuesday, March 17, 2020, and continue on school days for the duration of our school district closure.
Families may drive through the parking lot next to the Rockdale Elementary gym to pick up a meal for each child who is present in the vehicle. With the requirement to maintain a safe social distance, meals will be delivered to each vehicle, so parents are required to stay in your car.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8:30 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Only meal pick-ups will be offered. On-site dining is not available. There is no cost for these meals, and the program is open to anyone 18 years old and younger.

We wish to thank our Food Service Department for planning and offering these meals for our students.

Due to numerous school closings this coming week, Pack Pals would like to assist those families with children in need with kid friendly meals. They have a LIMITED supply, but are willing to share what they do have on hand and are working to increase their supplies.
If you would like to pick up a bag for your child, please go by Rockdale Signs and Photography between 9:00 am and 11:30 am starting Monday. If you do not feel comfortable going inside, please simply honk and be patient as someone will come out to assist you.
If you feel inclined to help, food donations and monetary donations can also be dropped off at the same location. They will continue to offer food for as long as they have supplies.
There will be NO practices for UIL athletics or academics for all of next week for Rockdale ISD.
Information on the spread of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is constantly changing and we have been monitoring those updates daily. Today we have meetings/phone conferences with the Commissioner of Education, Mike Morath, our district UIL committee, and the Milam County Health Department. We will send an update later this evening on our decisions for next week. Thank you for your patience as we navigate these uncharted waters.
