Senate Bill 12
During the 89th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 12 was passed, requiring school districts to both inform parents/guardians of their rights and obtain consent for certain health-related services. This includes things like first aid, short-term counseling, or annual health screenings.
At Rockdale ISD, we remain committed to partnering with you in supporting students’ academic success and overall well-being. Teachers and staff may check in with students informally (such as asking how they are feeling), but at times, more structured support may be needed. In those cases, our goal is always to honor and align with your role as the parent or guardian.
To strengthen this partnership, Rockdale ISD offers a range of health- and counseling-related services for students. Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, state law requires parents to provide annual consent for these services.
