Rockdale ISD is saddened to share the news that Mr. Kent Bowermon, Vice-President of the Rockdale ISD Board of Trustees has passed away. Mr. Bowermon was first elected to the Board in 2011, re-elected in 2014 and again in May of 2017. He has served as Vice-President of the Board since 2015. Throughout his tenure on the Board, Mr. Bowermon’s primary focus was that students are the ultimate reason for serving. He was also a true believer of looking out for the best interests of the teachers and focusing on hiring and retaining the best teachers available. One of Mr. Bowermon’s favorite unofficial board duties was presenting service awards, ice cream floats or other treats, to students and staff to celebrate their achievements. Students and staff alike loved seeing “Mr. B.” visit.
Michelle Lehmkuhl, board president realizes the void the school board will experience. The wealth of educational knowledge Mr. Bowermon brought to each meeting as well as the dedication to Rockdale ISD will be irreplaceable.
According to Superintendent Dr. Monzingo, “This is a huge loss for Rockdale ISD, and he will be missed. He enjoyed being on the school board as well as participating in the many committees. Mr. Bowermon truly loved the students and staff of RISD. He always greeted everyone with an encouraging smile and comment. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family."
Prior to coming to Rockdale, Mr. Bowermon was a long time principal at Big Spring ISD; leaving to become superintendent at Weimer ISD. After retiring to Rockdale he continued to provide support to schools by becoming interim principal at the Rockdale Junior High as well as substituting as an administrator at the High School.
